The tension is there. The 26 years old Hikaru Nakamura has outplayed his Norwegian rival. The American’s position is clearly winning, and the Norwegian World Champion on the other side of the board knows it very well. Now it’s all about converting it into a clean win.
Nakamura’s stepfather, Sunil Weeramantry, is nervous in the press room, just outside the playing hall in Hotel Savoy. Both he and his son have waited and worked for this moment. (more…)
This year, as well as last year, we are focusing on the young people before and during the tournament. We have now started with chess lessons for young pupils in our region. It is clear that the interest in chess is rising in Norway in all age groups, and we are excited about the commitment and passion among both young and old ones. Several of the newly converted chess players will participate in to the School Chess Tournament while the international stars are playing for the gold.
