It was an excellent show up by the media at the press conference at the Hotel Residence in Sandnes, Tuesday night. Reporters from numerous papers and television channels were there to cover as the news of the new Norwegian super chess tournament was announced.
It was Heidi Jeanett Nygård from the region of Stavanger who arranged the press conference in a very professional way. After welcoming the press, Kjell Madland briefly outlined the plans for this historical tournament’s future, before presenting the two main sponsors; Jadarhus and HTH kitchen.
Later on Siv Kristin Herikstad showed the brand new tournament website, that was up and running only a few hours ahead of the press conference.
Afterwards the focus was mostly on Magnus. He gladly answered all types of questions:
– I always try to win when I play tournaments, but it would of course be extra special to win a super tournament in Norway.
– I have agreed to use my contacts, and already some of the best players have responded positively to the question of participating.
– Of course there will be some extra pressure, even though the players are not cheered at in the same way as at football.
There was a very positive feel to the conference, which lasted about an hour. For us, it was a hectic but exceptionally inspiring evening. It was useful also to let everyone know about the tournament, as being better informed makes the planning easier to continue.
